On the night of June 4, a tragic accident occurred on Oakwood Avenue, resulting in the death of Arthur and Margaret Brooks, longtime and beloved residents of the local community. According to police reports, the vehicle involved in the accident was driven by Robert Collins, a well-known businessman in the city.
Local witnesses state that Collins' vehicle was traveling at high speed and appeared out of control before impact. The Brooks couple, according to reports, was calmly crossing the street when they were violently struck. Emergency teams quickly arrived at the scene, but unfortunately Arthur Brooks, 44, and Margaret Brooks, 42, did not survive their injuries and died at the scene.
Robert Collins stated to police authorities that reduced visibility caused by the heavy rain that night, combined with the wet road surface, had caused him to lose control of the vehicle. Tests conducted immediately after the accident ruled out alcohol consumption by Collins.
Local authorities have not yet presented formal charges, choosing to await the conclusion of the technical investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the accident. Sergeant Frank Miller, spokesperson for the Ravenwood Police Department, stated that all aspects of the case are being investigated with maximum priority.
Neighbors and friends of the Brooks couple have already started a campaign to raise funds for the future of the couple's two daughters. "Arthur and Margaret always helped everyone around them. Now it's our turn to give back," declared Jennifer Moore, campaign organizer and close friend of the family.
The Ravenwood City Hall announced that it will review the signage and lighting conditions on Oakwood Avenue, a stretch that has already recorded other accidents in recent years, although none with consequences as serious as this one.
